Role of Database Model in software development

A database model is the architecture of the database defined by the Database Management System and is used to develop applications in custom software development projects. A database model (or a Schema) is stored using a data dictionary and used to describe the database architecture graphically.

Thanks to the research work of various software development companies over the years, different database models have been defined. In general, common database models are Hierarchical models, Network models, Relational models, Entity-relationship models, Object-relational models and Object models.

A database model is usually designed based on a certain Database Management System. However, most of the organizations involved in software development service, provide support for multiple database models and options are provided for customizing the physical implementation process in actual development environment.
